Making a Difference
Prior to the existence of A Little Hope, there was not a single national organization dedicated to raising awareness and the money to advance the growth of children's grief support and the expansion of bereavement centers and camps for grieving children and teens in the United States.
In just eight years, we have grown from a regional organization funding five bereavement programs in the tri-state area, into a national foundation that has funded a total of 70 organizations in 33 states. We have expanded our scope from providing bereavement support services to 350 children and teens that had a family member die in the World Trade Center, to providing services that have impacted more than 85,000 American children and teens, regardless of the circumstances of the death of their loved one.
As of April 2010, we are continuing to partner with Manhattan based, Partnership with Children in creating additonal bereavement groups in six public schools. We have also made it possible for Calvary Hospital to launch it's Precious Moments Children's Bereavement Program in Brooklyn. Our 14 new programs include partnerships in: Tuscumbia Alabama; Tucson, Arizona; San Francisco, California; Miami, Florida; Lewiston, Idaho; Goshen, Indiana; Omaha, Nebraska; Syracuse, New York; Rapid City, South Dakota; Plano, Texas; while helping established partners expand their services in new locations: Good Grief into Newark, New Jersey, The Solace Tree into Las Vegas, Nevada, Ele's Place into Ann Arbor, Michigan and The Center for Grieving Children (Portland, Maine)into York County, Maine.
In 2009, A Little Hope partnered with several programs providing services for the children and teens of Military Families. In addition, organizations we have partnered with are continuing to provide services to children who were impacted by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
